Prowers County Public Health Update

Meghan Hillman of Prowers County Public Health and Environment shares information on Prowers county case counts compared to the state of Colorado. Hillman goes on to announce testing that has taken place in Kiowa county, which is now the only county in Colorado that remains at 0 cases.

Las Animas Museum

The Boggsville historic site and the Museum are open for business with the usual restrictions of masks and social distancing. The historic site is open Tuesday – Saturday, from 11am to 4pm through September. Museum hours are Tuesday 9am – 4pm; Wednesday - Saturday noon-4pm. And Sunday and Monday by appointment only Boggsville’s latest enhancements are children mannequins, Native American exhibit additions; and a World War II exhibit. Lamar Public Library Census Unit

Thursday August 27th, the Lamar Public Library will take the Colorado Census on the road for their final trip this month. Granada Park will host the mobile census unit from 11am-1pm, and Holly Park will host the Library census unit from 5pm-7pm. Laptops and equipment will be provided to Coloradans to complete the census and sanitation will take place after each use. Participants may bring mailed in materials which include a census ID, but documents are not required. Census data will not be distributed or shared with other agencies. Masks will be required during the Lamar Public Library mobile census event and social distancing guidelines will be enforced.


State Investigation

Monday marked the one-year anniversary of 23-year-old Elijah McClain's death following his encounter with Aurora Police officers. The incident has led to several independent investigations, including one out of the Colorado Attorney General's office ordered by Governor Jared Polis. Governor Polis said he hopes Elijah's death will help spark meaningful reforms in policing nationwide.
