Lamar Parade of Lights

The Parade of Lights will be held Friday Dec. 11th. The Lamar Chamber days there will be some restrictions in place that NEED to be followed with NO EXCEPTIONS, saying “If we all follow the rules, we can have a great fun night”. more information will follow. Positions Open for Lodging Tax Tourism Panel

The Prowers County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications from persons who are residents of Prowers County to fill three positions on the nine-member Prowers County Lodging Tax Tourism Panel. Each term is for three (3) years and is required to attend monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of each month. Prowers County Application for Boards and Commissions is available on our website: or can be picked up at the Administration Office. Applications may be dropped off at the Administration Office or mailed to Prowers County Commissioners, 301 S. Main St., Suite 215, Lamar, CO 81052. Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on December 17, 2020.

Click it or Ticket

The Colorado Department of Transportation announces nearly 160 lives lost on Colorado roads this year by people who did not buckle up. Colorado’s seat belt use rate is 86%, which is below the national average of 90%. The statewide Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement period began this week. The minimum fine for not wearing a seatbelt in Colorado is $65 for adults and $82 for unrestrained children. The Colorado Department of Transportation reminds drivers and passengers to buckle up every trip, every time.


Colorado Economy

There are major worries about the Colorado economy due to rising coronavirus numbers. University of Colorado Colorado Springs Economic Forum Executive Director Dr. Tatiana Bailey says the federal government needs to pass a relief package because billions have been spent on unemployment. Unemployment claims are on the rise again along with tightening restrictions in the state. The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment reported last week the top three business industries making unemployment claims included those in accommodation and food services, administrative and support, and construction. Healthcare and retailers are also reporting more unemployment claims.

Human Trafficking Campaign

The State of Colorado is set to launch a new human trafficking awareness campaign today. It's a multi-year effort, aimed at getting people to stop and think about the issue. A virtual news conference is set for this morning. The campaign is the result of legislation that mandated the development of a plan to educate Colorado residents. Space X

The International Space Station has four new guests. The four astronauts from SpaceX's Crew Dragon capsule successfully docked with the space station Monday night. On Sunday, SpaceX successfully launched its first fully operational mission to send humans into space. Before linking up with the space station, the crew spent a little over a day in orbit.

Wal-Mart Thanksgiving Dinners

Walmart is looking to help families have a Thanksgiving dinner this year. The company announced yesterday that it is partnering with the phone app called Ibotta. Once downloaded, customers can use the Free Thanksgiving Dinner offer on the Ibotta app and shop for Thanksgiving meal items at any Walmart store or online. The receipt will earn customers cashback for the entire purchase. This deal is being offered from today until Thanksgiving Day.
