Officer Faces Criminal Charges

The Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office has learned that criminal charges have been filed in connection with the Officer-involved shooting of 39-year-old Zachary Gifford that took place on April 9, 2020. Former Deputy Quinten Stump faces charges of Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder in the Second Degree and Reckless Endangerment. Former Deputy Stump is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Any questions regarding the case should be directed to the 15th Judicial District Attorney's Office at 336-7446.

Emergency Housing Program

Prowers County and Baca County residents now have access to the Emergency Housing Program for renters and homeowners in need of assistance. Those unable to pay rent or mortgage due to financial circumstances related to the pandemic are eligible. Other requirements include low monthly income, and application completion. Units that receive housing assistance are ineligible for the emergency housing program. More information can be found on

Rocky Ford School District Learning

Rocky Ford Junior and High School students will return to an in person hybrid schedule on Monday January 18th. 7th, 10th and12th grade students will be in person at the school all day on Mondays and Wednesdays. While 8th, 9th and11th grade students will be in person at the Rocky Ford school all day on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Safety checks for staff and students will still be required upon entering the building and all individuals must wear a mask. Rocky Ford School doors open at 7:15am. Colorado Revises COVID-19 Vaccine Plan

Colorado will revise its distribution of COVID-19 vaccines to line up with sweeping changes coming from federal health officials. Governor Jared Polis says the state will soon give priority to people age 65 and older. Up until now, Colorado has focused COVID-19 vaccine distribution on health care workers, followed by people ages 70 and up. The federal government is now urging states to expand vaccination clinics to more venues, including larger sites like convention centers or arenas.

Restaurant Employee Meal Programs

A new program in Colorado Springs is providing meals to restaurant workers from struggling restaurants. Meagan Thomas with Rally for Restaurants COS says the cash comes from the Pikes Peak United Way. One restaurant participating in the program says the money really helps because it provides money they haven't seen in months.


Garden City Police Department Reminder

The Garden City Police Department reminds Kansans that owners of micro utility vehicles, such as golf carts and gators, are required to annually renew their registration information. Registration renewals are $15 made payable to the City of Garden City. Owners of a Micro Utility Vehicles will need to schedule a renewal appointment with an inspector through the Garden City Police Department's website.
