Nebraska Governor Supports Colorado Meat

Nebraska's governor is taking direct aim at Colorado with a declaration designed to support the production and sale of meat. Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts signed a proclamation yesterday designating this Saturday as "Meat on the Menu Day." Ricketts mentioned during the proclamation signing that the event was intentionally scheduled for the same date as Colorado's "MeatOUT Day," which encourages Coloradans to skip meat this Saturday. Ricketts called anti-meat activism a direct attack on Nebraska and Rural Colorado's way of life.

2021 Arkansas Valley Communities That Care Youth Recognition

The Bent County Developmental foundation announces their 2nd annual Youth Recognition Awards. If you know a young person, aged 9 to 25 years old who resides in Bent, Otero or Crowley counties, you are encouraged to nominate them in one of 12 categories. The Bent County Development committee will do a review of all submissions and choose a winner in each category. All winners will receive a gift card, certificate of appreciation and a goodie bag! Arkansas Valley Communities that Care Youth Awards will be presented by the Bent, Otero & Crowley County Commissioners, and announced in May of 2021. Baca County COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic

Baca County Board of Public Health, Baca County Public Health Agency, Southeast Colorado Hospital District, and the State of Colorado will be holding a Covid-19 vaccine Clinic on March 26, 2021 with appointments beginning at 8:30am. The vaccine clinic will administer the mederna vaccine in the Minnick building of the Baca County Fairgrounds. Vaccination appointments for 2nd doses will be from 8:30 am -10am on March 26th, and at 10am for 1st doses in approved categories. Eligibility includes people age 60- older, frontline essential workers in the grocery and agriculture industry, and people 16-59 with two or more high risk conditions. Prowers County Public Health Update

Over 1500 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered through Prowers County according to Prowers County Public Health and Environment. Changes in the COVID-19 dial, and vaccination phase are anticipated in the coming weeks. Jolyn of Prowers County Public Health shares information on the next phase, 1B.4 Free Community Testing is still offered through High Plains Community Health Center Monday-Friday starting at 11am. Colorado Drivers Warning

Drivers are being urged to use caution if they plan to use Interstate 25 south of Pueblo in the next 24 hours. The National Weather Service says up to a foot of new snow could fall in areas like Rye and Walsenburg as a new winter storm starts moving through southern Colorado later today. Six to eight-inches is forecast in areas like Trinidad and Westcliffe, and the weather service says dangerous to impossible travel conditions could result. Areas like Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Canon City and Woodland Park should receive one to three inches by tomorrow.

Kansas LIEAP Program

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly encourages Kansans to apply for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program to help pay increased electricity bills caused by extreme temperatures. Applications to the LIEAP program are to be submitted by 5pm on March 31st. Payment plans through the Kansas Corporation Commission are also available. Utility companies in Kansas have recently been required to share all cost information associated with residential utility bills A plan showing how costs can be decreased for customers throughout the state is also required by the Kansas Commission.
