Baca County COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic

Baca County Board of Public Health, Baca County Public Health Agency, Southeast Colorado Hospital District, and the State of Colorado will be holding a Covid-19 vaccine Clinic on March 26, 2021 with appointments beginning at 8:30am. The vaccine clinic will administer the mederna vaccine in the Minnick building of the Baca County Fairgrounds. Vaccination appointments for 2nd doses will be from 8:30 am -10am on March 26th, and at 10am for 1st doses in approved categories. Eligibility includes people age 60- older, frontline essential workers in the grocery and agriculture industry, and people 16-59 with two or more high risk conditions. Visit BacaCountyCo.gov for vaccination paperwork needed prior to inoculation.

Zane Rankin Lamar Key to the City

During Last Night’s City Council meeting, Lamar High School wrestler Zane Rankin received a key to the city from the Council. The 3x State wrestling champion has been the 1st to hold the title in the history of Lamar High School. March 25th is now proclaimed as Orange and Black Day in honor of Zane Rankin. The City Council is encouraging all citizens of Lamar to wear Orange and Black in his honor this Thursday.

Boulder Shooting

Colorado Governor Jared Polis says his heart is breaking following a shooting at a Boulder King Soopers. Witnesses Who escaped tried to get out as soon as possible. The witness says Boulder police got on scene pretty quickly. Police in Colorado are confirming multiple deaths in the shooting. Police Chief Maris Herold said the officer was one of the first to respond to the shooting in Boulder. Kroger says they are "horrified and deeply saddened" by the mass shooting that left ten people dead yesterday. In a statement, Kroger says it will continue to cooperate with law enforcement and that the Kroger Family offers its thoughts, prayers and support to those affected. The accused shooter is in custody.


Strengthen Colorado Main Streets Bill

A $30 million bill has been passed in Colorado to support maintenance and construction on Main Streets in the State. Governor polis passed the bill over the weekend to help improve roadways, and public safety. The bill provides a stimulus to communities that have applied for grants, with the main goal of restoring main streets for local businesses. Currently, road work on HWY 50 between La Junta and Las Animas is set to be completed by this Saturday, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. HWY 287 through Lamar is operating alternating single lane closures and on schedule to be completed by the end of April.

Liber Kansas Valor Awards

The Citizens Award of Valor has been awarded to two Libreal Kansas Residents. Luis and Cerisse joined together to help a woman whose life was in danger. Both parties witnessed a woman in distress jump from a vehicle, she had been battered and needed help. The victim jumped into his vehicle and Luis did not hesitate to help by driving away from the suspect. The Liberal Police Department honored the two Liberal, Kansas citizens this month with the Citizens of Valor award.


Garden City Spring Clean Up

Garden City Spring Clean Up day is on schedule to launch Monday March 19th. The City of Garden City says the Spring clean day is a great opportunity to discard old furniture, trash, and junk for residents. All items are to be placed on the street curb and not alleyways. Waste Connection will also take debris from April 2nd -April 9th for a reduced fee. For residents who are missed during the Spring Clean day, call 620-276-1270 to make arrangements to have trash collected by the City of Garden City.


College Basketball

The University of Colorado is out of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament following a loss to Florida State. The fifth-seeded Buffaloes fell 71-53 last night in Indianapolis. The fourth-seeded Seminoles will play number-one seed Michigan in the next round. Colorado finishes 23-and-9 on the season.
